About California Conservation Corps
The California Conservation Corps is a department within the California Natural Resources Agency. We are the oldest and largest conservation corps in the nation. Our program provides young adults 18 – 25-years-old a year of paid service to the State of California. During their year of service, Corpsmembers work on environmental projects and respond to natural and man-made disasters. Through this work, they gain skills and experience that lead to meaningful careers. We are dedicated to developing our Corpsmembers into citizens with character, credentials, and commitment.
Corpsmember EnrollmentEvery month the CCC enrolls dozens of Corpsmembers into the program. If you’re looking for a life-changing opportunity with specialized training, education and scholarships while earning a paycheck and giving back to your community and the environment, the California Conservation Corps is the place to be.
The California Conservation Corps welcomes young individuals from all backgrounds. Once enrolled, expectations are high. Corpsmembers emerge from the CCC with character, credentials and commitment. The CCC is designed as a one year, full-time program. By completing a full year of service, you gain access to the full range of opportunities, training and experiences offered by the CCC.
As of March 2022, Corpsmembers are paid a monthly stipend of $2,400. Corpsmembers who demonstrate strong leadership, motivation, and work performance may be able to promote to leadership positions with an increased stipend amount. Additionally, Corpsmembers have opportunities to earn emergency excess pay while responding to emergencies and natural disasters.

The California Conservation Corps offers a range of job opportunities throughout the state, often in beautiful surroundings such as the serene redwood forests in California’s North Coast, the rolling vineyards in the Central Coast, and the giant sequoias in the mountainous Sierra Nevada.
In order to be eligible for civil service positions within the CCC, candidates must either take an examination and be placed on the eligible list or already work for the state and be eligible to transfer. Additionally, local centers often have openings for at-will, hourly positions called Special Corpsmembers.
CCC staff oversee crews of Corpsmembers, help guide them through core training courses, and provide mentorship. Civil service staff also coordinates programs, manage residential kitchens, and assist operations from headquarters and center locations. Positions include crew supervisors, maintenance mechanics, supervising cooks, and more.
